How to Help Allergies with Chiropractic Treatment

I didn’t understand Chiropractic treatment for the immune system until my own son experienced an autoimmune disorder. Other parents shared how chiropractic treatment had been so beneficial to helping their child’s autoimmune flare ups. I could also remember how another friend used to bring her daughters to the chiropractor immediately following vaccinations or during winter months. Turns out, chiropractic adjustments are not just for car accidents and achy backs. The immune system benefits greatly from spinal adjustments and this includes chiropractic allergy treatment.

What is Chiropractic Treatment

First we need to understand chiropractic care itself. Chiropractic care is the care of the spine. How does this help allergies? The spine is the foundation for so many functions of the body. The central nervous system consists of the brain and spinal cord. It controls many functions in the body. From movement, to thought, to heart rate and hormones. When a small part of the spine goes out of place, the normal nerve communication is hindered among other normal flows within the body. Chiropractic therapy involves spinal adjustments to realign the spinal column. The benefits of chiropractic care include less pain, mental clarity, better immune function and so much more. It’s a natural treatment to aid in healing the body from many health conditions as well as providing pain relief. Now let’s see what allergies have to do with chiropractic care.

What are Allergies

An allergic response happens when the body detects an enemy present and signals from the central nervous system are given to attack the allergic substance. Unfortunately, some of these foreign invaders may only be animal dander, flowers or dust mites. While having hay fever, seasonal allergies or environmental allergies from your living space isn’t fun: it’s an immune response. Allergic conditions tend to be a hypersensitive reaction that wind up attacking your own body more than any germs.

Here’s some of the downsides to allergic reactions. First, allergies cause inflammation. Second, histamines are a neurotransmitter released if your body detects a threat. Having an improper amount of histamines released can be a result of allergies. In addition, cortisol levels (your stress hormones) rise and in some cases high blood pressure results. Inside, there is a huge battle waging from the body’s immune system. On the outside, it’s easiest to see the visual symptoms such as these:

  • Runny nose / stuffy nose
  • Itchy Eyes
  • Hay Fever
  • Watery Eyes

Severity of allergy symptoms can range from a stuffy nose during allergy season to a full blown immune response. In severe allergic reactions you might see extreme skin or respiratory symptoms such as:

How does it work for Allergies

The theory for chiropractic allergy care is how it can help the immune system.

  • May help the Respiratory System. If there is a slight misalignment, nerves that communicate with the lungs can be compromised. Releasing pressure on these can help the respiratory system work better.
  • May Help the Immune System. Spinal misalignments may also cause miscommunication for the immune system. This means improper levels of histamines etc. being released. Realigning the spine may also allow greater communication between the spine, brain and immune system.

Alignment is very important to the body so correcting a misaligned spine is very important. Symptoms of an out of line spine isn’t just pain. It can also cause immune problems such as aggravating allergies or a lowered Immune system.

Chiropractic care for allergies sufferers has to do, not so much with cracks and stretches, but with underlying issues because of spinal misalignments. Here’s the good news: when the spine is put back into proper alignment, it automatically encourages proper communication from the central nervous system to the rest of the body. This could mean corrected histamine regulation and allergy relief.

Will it Work For You

So will chiropractic care cure your allergies? Few Studies have researched this topic. Most information on allergy treatment through chiropractic therapy is anecdotal evidence. Studies still need to be done, but supporting your allergy treatment with chiropractic care is definitely worth a shot. Look at this.

According to Dean Chiropractic of Michigan, symptoms accompanying allergies such as:

  • Dizziness
  • Stiffness
  • Persistent headaches
  • Ear infections
  • Lower back pain
  • Localized Swelling

“suggest that the patient may be suffering from a spinal subluxation that is impacting specific nerve clusters” In this case, correcting the spine could be very helpful.

On the other hand, allergy medications may help, but true relief won’t occur until spinal nerves are corrected.

More Natural Immune Support

Not only do Chiropractic doctors use spinal manipulation, they also support the body’s own healing abilities. You can do this through nutrition and using healing foods. You can also focus on the mental aspect of healing too. Practice meditating on scripture when stress begins and practice forming new habits on how you think. Focus on what is true, not what I “feel” might be true.

Your Experience

Have you tried chiropractic care for allergy treatment? I’d love to hear what your experience is. I hope this has given you some helpful information as you seek to nurture and nourish your home and family!

From the Hilltop,

Krista
