This time eight years ago I was hard at work. I was painting a picture for my boyfriend who was living in New Zealand and would be coming home for Christmas. I decided to paint a picture of a place he’d taken me on my birthday date in June. The Head of the Metolious River was where we’d stopped to see water trickle out of the mountain forming a beautiful river.
We fed the chipmunks and walked through tall pine trees. I didn’t know that while home over Christmas he’d take me back to that spot and ask me to marry him. It was the perfect gift.
A year and a half after moving into our new place I still need to put up pictures. This time of year is a reminder that there are some very important pictures that don’t deserve to be kept in storage.
